Designer Helle Damkjær has a particularly hands-on approach to her work, laboriously creating each piece in white clay to ensure that the shape is exactly right. This gives her pieces a noticeably softer and warmer appearance, despite the hard stainless steel. Created in this way, her Bloom collection has won its way into the hearts of Georg Jensen customers for twenty years. The gentle curves of the Bloom mirror bowl were originally inspired by the natural forms of cherry blossom petals. Translated into stainless steel, these become a bowl of deceptive simplicity where the sculptural form and dazzling surface require no extra embellishment. The bowl makes a striking table centrepiece or can be used to hold fruit or bread. Helle Damkjær’s travels to Japan lead to her designing the series of Bloom bowls, dishes and spoons for Georg Jensen. The results are a winning combination of natural shapes, Scandinavian minimalism and superb craftsmanship.
